My Thoughts: AIX Food

By: Jennifer Horthman

“Part of the secret of success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside.” ― Mark Twain

I love food. Food is my everything. I just can’t live without food. Just imagine some nice banku and succulent tilapia just calling you. “Mehn”, you can’t say NO to that, trust me. Some might say that food makes people fat, but for me it keeps me in shape. Yeah, that’s me. My name is Jennifer Horthman and I just want to tell those who are being teased for loving food so much not to worry. You might be called names and all that but don’t worry. Be who you are, just like me.  Continue reading

Entrepreneurship Report: Amazing Day Three Of Entrepreneurship

By: Audrey Zorh & Amma Owusu-Addo

“The value of an idea lies in the using of it.” —Thomas Edison

Today, we woke up all energized and fresh to an amazing day three of entrepreneurship. The day started with a talk from Mrs. Ruth Kwakwa (the Dean of Students Affairs). She gave this talk which made us realize that we are not only about education but also there is another side to us that most of us barely make good use of—our curiosity—and a university like Ashesi helps young people bring out this other side. It was indeed sad seeing my friends stay behind in the lab while I walked into lecture hall 216 for my first session in entrepreneurship. In fact, tears flowed through my tear ducts but I just had to hold it. It was not an easy thing to be separated from the people you love. Hmm… that was what I was thinking till a deep thought run through my mind; “You gotta make sacrifices to get what you want.” Moreover, you have to bond with people to share the same dreams with, according to one Mr. Entrepreneur. Intro to Robotics

Most people think that they know what a robot is—and in their minds, they understand it—that is, until they try to define it. That raises all sorts of questions, like, “What makes a robot different from an ordinary computer?” or “Does a machine need to have independent intelligence before it is considered a robot?” Continue reading

Robotics Report Day One: First Day Of Robotics session

"There are an endless number of things to discover about robotics. A lot of it is just too fantastic for people to believe." - Daniel H. Wilson

“There are an endless number of things to discover about robotics. A lot of it is just too fantastic for people to believe.”
– Daniel H. Wilson

We were introduced to the Robotics session yesterday and we were separated into different groups. I was put into group 8. There were four members in my group including me and one mentor. She is Vanessa. Vanessa really gave us motivation and guidance when we were given our first task of building the robot. Continue reading

My Thoughts: The Experience so far!!

AIX!!  This has been a one-of-a-kind experience in my entire life!  And I’m really amazed and also glad I’m here! Initially, I stepped in here, not knowing what to expect, I was reserved and a bit enervated. But the last few days have proved to be really worth it. A scavenger hunt started the week; we were put into groups and together each team had to look around the school campus for other people or required items. That was the onset of all the interactions and meeting of new people. The beginning of long-standing relationships. Personally, it wasn’t easy opening up but eventually I got around to talking to a few people. Continue reading

My Thoughts: Saturday Morning Jogging (Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That!)

Why I believe jogging is not for everyone?
Jogging is regarded as a very useful exercise. Many athletes and keep-fit fanatics do this quite regularly. Some people may prefer it to any other form of exercise, but I prefer any other type of exercise to jogging. Let me use my own personal anecdote to prove my point. This morning, I woke up at 6:17am, 17 minutes after morning aerobics was supposed to start. Believe it or not, I was elated. Deep inside, I was hoping everyone had left and maybe I could rest a little longer, but I was definitely wrong about that. My room mates and I were dressing up when a mentor came knocking at our door quite aggressively. I was disappointed. Continue reading

Participants’ Report: Day Seven

Student's Partying!

The party never stops at AIX. Metaphorically, of course.

After such a turbulent week, the party organised by the mentors was an excellent way to relax our minds and bodies. This party had a lot of patronage, food, drinks, good music and a whole lot more. People also got the chance to show their hidden talents whilst others engaged themselves in all sorts of “networking”. Continue reading

Coming to Ashesi for the AIX 2014 has being a life changing experience for me.The activities have literally pulled me out of my shell, out of my comfort zone and have helped in improving my confidence level. The public speaking competition, the design challenges and the drama competition among others have contributed to the boost in my confidence level. Continue reading
